Unescon
kansainvälisenä filosofiapäivänä 20.11.2008 silmällä pitäen on järjestetty
lukiolaisten tiedekilpailuja ympäri maailmaa. Itämeren alueen
esseekilpailussa oli osallistujia Saksasta, Puolasta, Latviasta, Virosta,
Norjasta ja Suomesta. Kilpailun arvosteluraadin valitsemat seitsemän parasta
esseestä asetti seuraavaan paremmuusjärjestykseen Helsingin yliopiston
kansleri, filosofi Ilkka Niiniluoto:

In
answering the questions, participants to the essay competition are
expected to:

present an argument in an organised way

clear, precise and appropriate language

identify any assumptions in the question

develop a clear and focused argument

identify the strengths and weaknesses of their argument

identify counter-arguments and address them if possible
·
provide relevant supporting material, illustrations and/or examples where
appropriate

conclude by making a clear, concise and philosophically informed personal
response to the examination question.

of the following topics and write an essay on it. You have two hours (120
min) to complete the essay. You are allowed to use a dictionary. Other
sources must not be used.
