Philosophy Day at UNESCO, 16th November 2006

A Philosophical Essay Event

The AIIPh Baltic Sea Net organizes with the Finnish UNESCO ASPnet, The
Finnish Association for Teachers of Philosophy and Philosophy of Life
and Societas Philosophica Fennica, a philosophical essay event for
secondary school students in countries around the Baltic Sea.

In Finland the essay event also functions as a selection for the
Philosophy Olympics in 2007. The schools that wish to participate in the
essay event should order the topics of the essay and further information
from the National Board of Education in Finland by Friday 6th November
either by e-mail or by mail. The addresses are: e-mail
tuulia.ahola-luttila@oph.fi  or mail Opetushallitus UNESCO ASP/ Tuulia
Ahola-Luttila, PL 380, FIN-00530 Helsinki, FINLAND.

The papers should be prompt and concise, approximately one or two pages
long, and they should be written in English or in German or French
(however, not in the student's own mother tongue). The participating
schools should select max. two best papers.  The written papers should
be sent by e-mail or by mail to the address above. The deadline for the
papers is Wednesday 8th November 2006.

Philosophically the most illuminating papers will be awarded with
material connected to the given philosophical and world heritage topics.
The names of the awarded participants will be announced on Thursday 16th
November, and the best essays will be published in the internet in the
following addresses: www.unescokoulu.fi and www.feto.fi. Therefore we
are also asking the participants for permission to publish their essay.
